The Department of Mechanical Textile Technologies was established in 1997. The Department provides education for students both in basic as well as in advanced courses. The Department concentrates on theoretical and experimental training in mechanical textile technology with attention given to spinning, weaving and knitting. These 3 fundamental technological branches create the predominant part of the textile industry. These professional branches are focused upon technology, machinery and their facilities and are connected with relevant questions, especially those dealing with the quality of the entire textile processes. Main Research Topics of the Department are related to:

  • Analysis of yarns (incl. yarn cross section, yarn diameter, yarn hairiness, etc.).
  • Analysis of the woven as well as knitted fabric structures incl. of their mechanical properties.
  • Computer aided yarn and woven fabric design.
  • Application of A.I. techniques to the simulation of textile structures.
  • Investigation of mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of fibres and fibrous structures.
  • Mathematical modelling of textile structures and their properties. · Evaluation of textile quality, subjective and objective methods of hand evaluation, surface roughness characterization.
  • Analysis of special measurements (image analysis, thermo-mechanical analysis).
  • Colour and appearance measurement.
  • The development of new methods and instruments for the evaluation of thermo-physiological comfort of textiles.
  • The development of the PC controlled compact system for the automatic hand assessment.
  • Research works concerning the drape and flexural rigidity of woven fabrics.
